The Melbourne Cup has a rich history, stretching back over 140 years with the first race run in 1861won by Archer. Since then there have been many great Melbourne Cup Champions.
The great Phar Lap in 1930, the unlucky Shadow King placing 4 times straight deserves a mention despite not winning, Rain Lover 1968 & 1969, Think Big 1974 & 1975, Vintage Crop 1993 being the first raider to win, the peoples horse in Might and Power 1997 and of course Makybe Diva 2003-2005.
